Overview

The Salento has two great pleasures — and they are best experienced one at a time.

The first half of this week belongs to Lecce: the baroque city whose honey-coloured stone changes character at every hour of the day, whose streets contain the best restaurants in the south and whose craftspeople are still doing what they have always done. Four nights is enough to feel that you understand it. It is not enough to exhaust it.

The second half moves to the coast — south to where the Adriatic meets the Ionian and the landscape becomes something else. Otranto, where medieval pilgrims crossed the sea toward Jerusalem and whose cathedral floor is one of the most astonishing things in Italy. Or Gallipoli, the old island city on the Ionian, where the fishing fleet comes in every morning and the restaurants serve what it brings.

We handle the planning, the transfers and the recommendations. You choose the pace.
