The two great pleasures of Puglia — and they are not in competition.
The baroque towns of the region — Lecce above all, but also Ostuni, Martina Franca and the carved stone of the Valle d'Itria — are among the finest in Europe and almost entirely free of crowds. The wine that grows in the same landscape is equally serious: old vines, hot sun, the specific terroir of the Italian south.
This itinerary moves between both without rushing either. The mornings are for looking. The afternoons are for tasting. The evenings take care of themselves.
